Seed Cotton Conditioning

Conditioning seed cotton to the proper moisture level before it enters the gin stand and lint cleaners gives the fibers protection from damage by saws. Benefits include reduced short fiber content, increased uniformity, protecting staple length, better strength, better cleaning by eliminating static, and improved feeder efficiency. A seed cotton conditioning system is evaluated based on the following criteria:
  • Is the system fully operational?

  • Moist air generator performance ability

  • Moist air volume per bale capacity

  • Amount of system downtime

  • Qualified operators, training, and personnel oversight
